Cup of Excellence & Specialty Coffees are like fine wines...a step up from everyday coffee & a delight to the aficionado and great for a special treat! Coffee Lab has sourced some beautiful coffees for Coffee lovers, and recommend you get a surprise specialty coffee standing order of the coffee on offer for the week. This is purely an exercise of coffee decadence and born from our love affair with exceptional coffees.

Cup of Excellence coffee is a farm identified award winning coffee which has been cupped at least 5 times by 3 different skilled juries from national & international panels, and must score 84+/100 to qualify. The CoE organisation has done wonders for the world coffee industry seeking out & identifying excellence amongst coffee growers and rewarding them with international recognition. It has become a well recognised & highly trusted avenue for sourcing origin countries best coffees and also been responsible for helping connect growers directly to roasters with ongoing sustainable relationships where the grower is well paid for the quality of their product. This in turn gives all kind of benefits to their local communities & inspiration to continue producing great coffee that is gleefully pampered over by the coffee geeks around the world.

The above picture was taken in during Rob's trip to Brasil in 2007 where he visited Paulinho's Cup of Excellence winning organic farm "Santa Terezinha" in Paraisopolis. Rob, who is fluent in Portuguese has in depth conversation with Paulinho about the care taken with the soil around the trees, the detail in organic fertilizer preparation, the careful attention to pick only ripe cherries and the importance of the processing methods for flavour. Paulinho is incredibly dedicated to organics and very passionate about his farm, his people, his coffee, his cows and was very hospitable.

Cup of Excellence 2011/2012 lot 18 This absolutely stellar coffee from La Nueva farm scored 87.28/100. It is an exceptional coffee with amazing flavour, silky body and delightful sweetness.

Cup of Excellence Jury Taste Notes: Very sweet with buttersctch, caramel, black grape, jasmine, blueberry, blackberry, cherry and apple. Crisp orange acidity that is sparkling and lively with a smooth and buttery mouth feel.

Nicaragua Cup of Excellence 2011 Lot # 10

From the Nicaragua Cup of Excellence program comes this rare and outstanding coffee from the Santa Gema Farm scoring an incredible 87.53/100 from the international jury panel gaining it 10th place in the national competitions.  Experience the delectable crisp citrus acidity with chocolate, caramel & pear flavours. Roasting this coffee was amazing as it had an explosive first crack, huge expansion and intense cupping flavours. Buckle your seat belt for an amazing ride of coffee flavour!
